2019 Essay Contest

An anonymous donor has given $300.00 to Second Chance Last Opportunity, prize money for the middle school or high school authors of the three winning essays entitled “What I want to accomplish in school this year.” Entries must be postmarked by Tuesday, October 1 and mailed to Dr. April Glasco, P.O. Box 1027, Sarasota, FL 34230. Essays cannot exceed 250 words, can be typed or printed, and must be signed by the student and his/her English teacher. The enrollment form is below.

“The cash prizes will be awarded in early November,” according to Dr. Glasco, “but each winner will be followed and recognized in the spring if they reach their goals for school performance. Our donor wants to encourage conscious goal-setting for middle and high school students and for them to plan how they will meet their expectations.”

$20,000 Donation Challenge

After learning about the hunger that is rapidly growing in our community, an anonymous donor has started a matching-donation campaign to raise funds. The goal is $20,000 to be raised (and matched) in 10 days. These badly needed funds will be used to purchase groceries, personal care items and new-baby needs that we will distribute at our building, 1933 Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Way, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12 noon.

Thank you for spreading love in the form of support for those in need in these challenging times.
