Second Chance-Last Opportunity Celebrates Black History Month
Community Events Honor and Celebrate Black History and Culture

Sarasota, FL (February 8, 2008) – SCLO celebrates Black History Month and invites the entire community to support the following events:

Wednesday, February 27th: Community Art Show including submissions from area schools and local artists (amateur and professional), honoring the role African-Americans have played in the history and culture of our country. In collaboration with ArtCenter Sarasota, ASALH, and Ringing Museum.

Thursday, February 28th: Celebrating Sisterhood Evening to honor and pamper girls and women. This evening of learning and laughing will positively reinforce goals, show how to keep dreams alive, and build community amongst ourselves.

Friday, February 29th: Talent Contest showcasing the gifted singers, poets, dancers, and comedians we have in our own local community. Open to all show-offs, and those who enjoy being entertained.

All events are free, start at 6:30pm, and will be held at the Robert L. Taylor Community Center, 1845 34th Street, Sarasota. Everyone’s welcome!

Please call 360-8660 to see how you can get involved as a participant, guest, or sponsor!

Second Chance-Last Opportunity (SCLO) is a 501 © 3 tax exempt organization whose mission is to teach life management skills to at-risk teens, teen mothers, homeless and low income families in our community who often face multiple health, social and economic challenges.

The philosophy at Second Chance-Last Opportunity is to provide a hand up, not a hand out. The non-profit agency holds the view that in order to make a permanent change, the disadvantaged in our community must be given the opportunity to learn to be self-sufficient. SCLO provides them with the tools, guidance, and the opportunity they need to make a better life for themselves and their families.
