Second Chance Offers A Chance To Change
A new job training program that looks at the whole person

April 1, 2008 (Sarasota, FL) Second Chance-Last Opportunity is providing North Sarasota with a pilot program called “CHANGE” that gives individuals the opportunity to participate in on-job training. These individuals learn strategies enabling them to maintain stable employment and housing, and become productive leaders in the community.

SCLO has identified and enrolled 13 young adults who are ready to make a change in lives. They all have had experience of the criminal justice system, but are eager to start over and learn the employment and life skills that will make them successful. The philosophy of Second Chance-Last Opportunity is that everyone deserves a second chance if they’re willing to make changes in their lives, and these 13 program participants have enthusiastically made that commitment.

Through the program, SCLO is providing the opportunity for them to learn time management, communication skills, resume building, and budgeting skill. In addition, for the first time, these young adults are experiencing what is required to instigate and develop projects, to organize and make presentations, and to work collaboratively to ensure their ideas successfully come to fruition.

The goal of the 4 week program is to give these individuals decision making and problem solving skills, inspiration, connections, and referral to available services for on-going support that will enable them to obtain and hold down permanent employment. Stable housing can then follow, and they will be building a better future for themselves and their families; something their former life could not provide.

Second Chance-Last Opportunity is asking for support of the wider community to help make this program a success. We are looking for donations of clothing and shoes suitable for work, financial contributions to help with the expenses of the program, and employment opportunities for our participants. For more information, please call 360-8660.

Second Chance-Last Opportunity (SCLO) is a 501 © 3 tax exempt
organization whose mission is to teach life management skills to at risk teens, teen mothers, homeless and low income families in our community who often face multiple health, social and economic challenges.

The non-profit agency holds the view that in order to make a permanent change, the disadvantaged in our community must be given the opportunity to learn to be self-sufficient. SCLO provides them with the tools, guidance, and the opportunity they need to make a better life for themselves and their families.
