VDAY 2014: WHAT I WANT MY WORDS TO DO TO YOU
Film Screening and ‘Wrapped With Purpose’ Sister’s Circle Reunion
Tuesday, February 25, 7pm

February 9, 2014 (Sarasota, FL): Second Chance Last Opportunity (SCLO) is pleased to participate in this year’s VDAY ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE events by hosting a screening of the film “What I Want My Words to Do to You” which gives an unprecedented look into the minds and hearts of the women inmates of New York’s Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. The film goes inside a writing workshop led by playwright and activist Eve Ensler (author, Vagina Monologues), consisting of 15 women, most of whom were convicted of murder. The film documents both the wrenching personal journeys undertaken by the inmates to find the words that tell their own stories, and the power of those words to move the outside world. Individuals who have been served by SCLO’s programs will share their personal journeys throughout the evening. The film screening will take place on Tuesday, February 25 at 7pm at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center on 525 Kumquat Court. Admission is a $10 donation. There will be food and drink available for purchase.

The event will also serve as a Reunion for graduates of Second Chance-Last Opportunity’s Sisters Circle program. The Sisters Circle is a peer led, skill-building intervention program designed to educate and empower women to move to the next level of education or job readiness. Attendees at the event will be invited to join the Sisters and be ‘wrapped with purpose’ by supporting the program with their purchase of a purple scarf.
